PORT LOUIS, Mauritius, Capital Markets in Africa — The equity market capitalization ended at MUR 207.780 billion after dipping by MUR 731 million (about US$20.5 million) compared to previous market capitalization of MUR 208.511 billion.
The Mauritius All Share Index (SEMDEX index) waned by 0.33 percent or 6.57 points to close at 1,869.81 and SEM10 index fell by 0.35 percent 1.24 points to close at 355.70 points.
From the market activity viewpoint, the overall total volume trade ended at 22,161,675 (a rise relative to volume of 19,747,386 recorded on previous trading session) and the total valued traded was recorded at MUR 60.900 million (an increase relative to MUR 32.409 million recorded at previous trading session).
The most active traded securities by volume were SMB Holdings Limited recorded 21,418,543 (about 96.65 percent of total volume) at MUR 17.135 million and MCB Group registered 126,517 traded stocks amounted to MUR 26.100 million. New Mauritius Hotels Limited had 119,298 at MUR 2.094 million and Mauritius Development Investment Trust recorded a total volume of 116,500 shares at MUR 570,850. TERRA Limited also recorded 108,900 shares at MUR 3.142 million.
From the market sentiment/breath viewpoints, out of the 32 traded securities there were 2 price leaders and 14 price losers, hence the market sentiment ended negative. Air Mauritius Limited added 0.48 percent to end at MUR 10.55 and Rogers & Company Limited gained by 0.37 percent to close at MUR 27.10. Conversely, National Investment Trust Limited traded at MUR 41.00 by dropping 4.54 percent and FINCORP Limited slacked by 2.08 percent to end at MUR 18.80. Also, Mauritius Oil & Refinery Limited waned by 2.05 percent to settle at MUR 26.25, Lux Island Resorts Limited plunged by 1.72 percent to trade at MUR 57.00 and GAMMA Civic Limited dropped 1.57 percent to end at MUR 25.10.
The DEMEX index closed at 201.15 points after sagging by 0.86 points or 0.42 percent. The market capitalization closed at MUR 49.459 billion after dropping MUR 210 million (relative to MUR 49.669 billion recorded at previous trading session). The total value traded was MUR 4.027 million exchanged in 159,273 traded securities. ENL Investment sagged by 4.27 percent to trade at MUR 45.95 and Southern Cross Tourist Company Limited declined by 3.23 to end at MUR 6.00. Also, Bychemex Limited lost 1.71 percent to end at MUR 8.06 and LES MOULINS (Ordinary) dipped by 0.67 percent to end MUR 149.00.
